PostHeaderIcon First Raid

So, had my first raid with and the first non-pug 25-person raid i've had in around 6 months. I have to say that i was MAJORLY surprised at how smooth it went. Out of 9 bosses tonight, we did 8 on heroic (Putricide was normal for someones shadowmourne quest).

In all the raids i've EVER been in, this was by far one of the best. I'm not lieing when i say i've not been in a raid this good since BT days, except now i play a role that can perform all tasks it might be asked of.

I logged on, got into the raid, felt pretty usual about it. It wasn't until i saw how smoothly everything was going AND how good the players were that i realised this is where i want to be for raiding. Never seen people utilise their abilities like these people. Mages blinking during putricide adds, lock using teleport as well, etc. And thankfully, people interrupting. People ACTUALLY interrupting. It got to the point i was thinking that it was the tanks job to do that HAH!

I was also VERY surprised at how easy it was overall. I don't want to blow my own trumpet here too much so to speak (disturbing innuendo was not intended), but i realised tonight i am an exceptional player in comparison to the people i used to raid with (with the exception being those who migrated along with me).

I've had a really good raid. Didn't see the shield from BQL (FFF...) but did get some dps gloves and healing bracers (...UUUUUUU) i likely won't use.

Blood Princes Heroic was painful to tank the caster one and i think i messed up a few times there. We still got through it though.

PostHeaderIcon Upcoming Project

I'm currently working on a brand new (ok, it's not brand new so to speak) project; A Gaming Community portal.

It's currently looking VERY good and it's progressing nicely. However, it's not quite complete and there's still a few things to finish up. The design is complete, but the workings still need some... well, work.

The template is one i made myself, and it's based on the previous Battle.net design somewhat (the purple and blue one). It's making use of flash for the maintenance "message", the header, and the footer. None of these have gone over the top, but they really add to the design. Of course, the site supports those without flash enabled but javascript is pretty required to get it functional, which i consider a fair "requirement".

The forum has been integrated, i've got a bot that creates forum topics to discuss news posted on the front page (aptly named Scrapbot).

I'm currently planning on covering World of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Alien Swarm. I've got some setup to do still like i said, but it's all looking very uniform now. I'll hopefully be able to allow people to host videos and screenshots in the future.

Feel free to check it out; Innuendo Gaming Community
It's still in maintenance, but the maintenance message explains what's going on and when it'll be opened. I really can't wait to open the doors to the public although i don't know how much news coverage i'll be able to provide.

On another note, Zarhym just posted to say Season 8 ends on the 12th of October. He previously mentioned that 4.0.1 would go live on the same day they ended the season.

PostHeaderIcon What a week!

This post is about both WoW and Real Life.

These past few weeks have been REALLY weird for me. Let's go through it;
- 3 weeks ago; Had a job interview, looked good and did really well
- Guild officially confirmed as disbanding in the near future

- 2 Weeks ago; Ordered a new computer upgrade
- Upgrade arrived, sound was broken
- Hit 50k gold in game as my original plan
- Still hadn't heard from the interview

- 1 Week ago; Sorted out sending it back to RMA for a refund.
- 3 Days ago; got it sent back to RMA, should get refund after the weekend.
- Guild split or transferred to join on Shadowsong EU
- Gold Split between all members, brought me up to 65K
- I found TLPD in Storm Peaks and got the mount
- Still hadn't heard from the Interview

- I wake up, log onto PTR and find fire mages doing CRAZY damage and having crazy ranges
- I provide feedback, log off, rage a little
- I then get a phonecall seemingly out of the ordinary, and i find i DID get the job but they just forgot to contact me

Oh well, it's been a really bad few weeks at the start, but turned out to be the best week i've had in years right at the end! Couldn't really ask for much more.

PostHeaderIcon Synthaxx of Shadowsong of

Tonight has been a weird night. First, i've had lots of gold to sink into gems and stuff so i'm below gold cap. Then i've had 2 transfers to sort out for my Paladin and lock. My lock is staying unguilded for now though. I've renamed it too.

But, i'm over on Shadowsong now, some of the guildies who moved are as well and others will follow in the next days, and i'm now part of the guild . I'm really hoping this is the new start i've wanted for so long. Here's to the future!

PostHeaderIcon Lost in Time

Haha, wow. So, tonight, i've been taking it easy, getting ready for our guild move in a few days time. I've split the guildbank funds between the active people. It's around 15k gold each, so a fair amount each.

I'm now at 65k because of it, and being there's a gold transfer cap, i was looking for something to buy. So, i hearthed to dalaran and longingly stared at the tundra mammoth. I'd considered buying it before, but i'm really not sure if it'll be replaced by a flying vendor mount in Cataclysm, which would be better. Now, timing here was crucial. It was completely unplanned, but had i left even a second later, i'd have missed this opportunity.

I then flew to storm peaks. I was gonna check out the SoH rep vendor to see what i could buy. I flew over frosthold, looking down. I then turned my camera to look up and dead ahead, literally 20 yards, there it was. Time Lost Proto-drake. Not the corpse, it was actually alive and untagged. At this point, i got a sudden adrenaline rush of sorts and raced to pull it. Luckily, it was very close to a ledge, so i bodypulled, taunted, flew to the ledge, killed looted. And now, the mount i wanted right from the start of Wrath, i got it. It's kinda a good note to finish the expansion on, you know, getting everything you originally planned to get from the start, and finishing on a completely unpredictable note. Even if i never use it, the thought that i got this completely by chance after wanting it so long ago is rather settling. I'll finally be saying goodbye to unpredictable raiding schedules soon and raiding with a top guild. More details will follow on that soon. Roll on Cataclysm!

PostHeaderIcon Char copied!

So, i finally got my character copied over to the PTR realm (EU-Brill for those interested), and i've started putting together a video demonstrating the mechanic changes. The major surprise of this video isn't the content. It's not the new (VERY AWESOME) intro i made for my Cataclysm series videos. No, it's that for the first time ever, i'm doing a voiceover for it. Yes, i finally decided it was easier to just speak than to try and fit 20 words on the screen and demonstrate what i want at the same time. Recording the audio so far was amusing, being that i kept slipping up and saying "Crudsader Strike". CRUD-SADER!

I must say, even though numbers are bugged, broken, and untuned, i'm quite impressed with the spec. Sure, it has some drawbacks, but it's also looking quite fun on initial view. I did a HoS heroic earlier. It wasn't fun. Currently, due to a developer change, the mobs in WotLK instances are doing around 4x as much damage as they should be. These normal trash mobs in HoS Heroic were hitting me for 7k. Sure, i have 57k HP with kings, but hitting for 7k at a time is damn painful. Apparently the trash before Marrowgar in ICC10, when enraged, will 1-shot tanks. Yep, trash eating through 65% mitigation from armor as well as 75-80k Health Pools. I can only imagine Festergut, oh that'd be lolarious.

Once they fix the numbers back to where they're meant to be, i'll be able to test things a little better. Until then, it's mechanics only, although that is proving interesting. Here's a quick rundown of what we lose and gain;
- We're losing between 3k and 6k armor
- Unidentifiable Organ no longer has armor on it
- We're gaining between 7-10k Health (if you're in raiding gear)
- We're losing a bit of AP, but not much
- Your block will likely have increased dramatically (i gained around 20% block chance!)

Essentially, our mitigation drops, but we gain a lot of HP, and blocks are worth something now.

I'll go into more details in the video, and demonstrate the mechanics we're getting.

PostHeaderIcon Pee Tea Are Tess Sting

So, PTR went up. Currently, we're having a real issue with the EU char copies; They. are. not. working. Like, at all.

When they do start working, i'll be on Syn trying out prot (as expected). I'm gonna try out some single target dummy damage, then some single-mob damage. Then some single-target with full vengeance. Then some AoE tanking. Then some PvP.

I've got a load of stuff in my bags currently on live ready for when it does get copied over. I've got my DPS gear ready, as it's got the same armor, more stam, and more offensive stats. I'm gonna try with my normal tanking gear, then with a few tank-gemmed DPS pieces, then full DPS prot gear.

Really, i just don't think avoidance will be valuable until 85, so full EH-TPS is the focus for now. I'll be aiming to try out Avenger's Shield as at level 10, it was dealing (AP*2)+1 damage. What i'll be looking at on my main, with my "optimal gear setup", will be something like 55k health, with around 9.5k AP with full vengeance (that's napkin math and purely speculation). People are reporting 30k ShoR crits on the PTR, which i'm gonna say is due to tuning not being done yet. AS is supposedly hitting for around 6k on the PTR, but i previously heard of 30k crits. I'll need to test that side out as well and mess around with glyphs and gems, etc.

I'll be trying to get a video of what we're looking at once EU character copy is working. Until then, i've got to just wait it out.

I'm excited, but it's kinda dulled down being that the guild is officially dead for raiding now and we're trying to find another guild to take us all. If i can't find one for all of us, i'll simply have to go alone.

PostHeaderIcon The future of Synthaxx

So, we've been in Cataclysm beta for a fair few months now, and they finally made level 85 available. Now, i can start considering my future as a player.

As you might expect, i'm sticking with my Paladin and i'm staying Prot spec. I just like the tree changes overall. I mean, wrath was major for tankadins. The next one makes it fun. You know, almost every talent in the new tree seems really fun. I look at each one in turn, and with only a few exceptions, they're damn awesome. Guardian's Favor, Protector of the Innocent, and to some extent Reckoning and Judgements of the Just, look boring, but everything else is essentially new and fun.

I'm liking the proc systems they're bringing in. Tanks didn't have any interesting proc-based weapons in ICC like casters did. Now, we get those awesome procs in our talents.

If we're aiming for a November release, i'm honestly expecting PTR during september.

PostHeaderIcon Exploiters... gawd

Ah, AB weekend. Free XP for my priest. But wait a minute, many of my team are corrupt a-holes who don't know what "Fair" means.

There's the gate bug to start with, at least on Alliance side.

You know there's another exploit at LM that anyone can make use of? Discovered this the other day when finding a place to hide, but quickly realised it wasn't worth the account ban.
So, Stables, LM, gate bug.

If anything, they simply need to apply no-mans land debuff until the gates are open, just like EotS. Simply make inner corners blocks so that you can't glitch into them so easily.

Just now though, in this last AB, on my Alliance character, i've just seen this exact gate exploit happen. Of course, i mentioned that i'd report them (yes, call me all the names you want, it matters not), and of course, some other priest starts ranting on at me. The "conversation" that followed was amusing to say the least. You think i have a big ego? Check this;

Terenas retards, what to do with them.

I do have to say that i enjoy ending on a dateline-esque comment with regards to "You've been caught". The "speak when you're spoken to" seemed to be one of those stereotypical 4chan chav lines.

Still gonna report both of them. I'd normally let the priests comments past, but since they apparently approve of exploiting, it's FFA on reporting them. When i'm in game, i'm not all "HERE ARE THE RULES YOU MUST OBEY THEM ROAR", and i'm quite lenient if anything... but i will do my part in cracking down on those that deserve it, and anyone who approves of what the reported did or defends them clearly need reporting too. I'll even be as lenient as saying as long as they don't cap before the other team if they get out or interfere with either teams caps at the start, there's no issue.

I've just seen another get out in this match i'm in atm, and surprisingly, as soon as i said "get back here or you're being reported", they went and danced with the Horde side. Of course, i got people yelling at me for being "lol WoW police" and "Mr does everything by the book". In the end, if you're exploiting with intent to get a major advantage, you're getting reported, my team or not.

If anything, the issue needs to be fixed, plain and simple.

PostHeaderIcon ...And a voice that made me cry.... My oh my...

So, this is it. The end. It's been a long 2 years. Tonight, we lost another member of the guild.

I've been here for around 2 years, close to 3. 8 or so months ago, when i considered leaving, i said i'd give it another chance. It's difficult for me to give it another chance. Really difficult. It hurts just to even be in the guild while it's going under.

I don't know the future of the guild. I really don't. It's close to collapsing, the pressure is just too much. We've got more socials than raiders. Raiders can't raid as there's not enough of us, and any setup we get is sub-optimal.

If it does come to disbanding, i don't know what i'll do or where i'll go.

PostHeaderIcon Crazy changes!

Protection
  • Avenger's Shield is now Protection's primary skill. Cooldown lowered from 30 to 24 sec.
  • Divine Shield can now be used with Avenging Wrath.
  • Hand of Reckoning no longer deals damage if the target isn't attacking you.
  • Hammer of Justice no longer interrupts spellcasting for 3 sec.
  • Shield of the Templar now reduces the cooldown of Avenger's Shield by 3/6/9 sec. (Down from 3/7/10 sec)
  • Sacred Duty revamped - Your Judgements have a 25/50% chance of making your next Shield of the Righteous a critical strike. Lasts 15 sec.
  • Vindication revamped - Your Crusader Strike and Hammer of the Righteous have a 50/100% chance to reduce physical damage done by targets by 5/10% for 10 sec.
  • Shield of the Righteous revamped - Slam the target with your shield, causing Holy damage. Consumes all applications of Holy Power to determine damage dealt:
1 Holy Power: 20% Attack Power
2 Holy Power: 60% Attack Power
3 Holy Power: 120% Attack Power / 6% of base mana, 5 yd range, Instant cast
  • Guarded by the Light now increases your Word of Glory by 30/60% when used on yourself. (Up from 20/40%)
  • Holy Shield is now a Tier 5 talent, up from Tier 4. Revamped - Using Shield of the Righteous or Inquisition increases your block chance by 15% for 20 sec.
  • Grand Crusader now also procs from Hammer of the Righteous.
  • Hallowed Ground now decreases Consecration's mana cost by 40/80%.
  • Hammer of the Righteous revamped - Hammer the current target for 40% weapon damage, causing a wave of light that hits all targets within 0 yards for 1061 to 1407 Holy damage. Grants a charge of Holy Power.
  • Wrath of the Lightbringer now also affect your Judgement and Hammer of Wrath spells.

Just whoa! Most of these are very nice changes.

If i don't get into beta, i can't wait to try out prot on the PTR. I need to know damage output, damage input (this might prove difficult to get on a PTR where everyone is more focused on insulting each other than reporting bugs and feedback), resource maintenance, proc upkeep, etc.

I don't expect this is the end of Paladin changes though.

PostHeaderIcon Inc?

You know what i love about expansion releases? The mere fact that while i'm still learning my class, so is everyone else. The difference is that i've got more of a grasp of my class than most other people, at least in BG's.

I was watching some of my videos from the start of WotLK, including some that were 20+ minutes long and thus never got published to Youtube, and i realised something. I was a lot more courageous with my class back then. I look back on one video and see me running with the flag in EotS, surrounded by 4 team mates, all heading to another base.

I see me BEFORE Divine Plea could be refreshed, in an arena setting with a feral druid partner.

I realise how much i enjoyed things back then. This is why i can't wait for Cataclysm.

There's beta maintenance soon. I'm REALLY hoping that at least 1 of my plans ends up in a beta invite. I'm disappointed i'm not able to test it out and report things to make it a better game. I know it's not a demo, i know there'll be bugs, but even if just to test out my different classes and understand them, and provide feedback on what feels clunky, or what doesn't make sense for the classes i have less experience with, then i'd be happy.

I've never had a chance to beta test anything. It's scarily disappointing actually. Meh, whatever.

Anyway, gonna be reinstalling Windows. For some reason, i'm losing space on this SSD and i don't know why (yes, system restore, hibernation and all that sorta stuff is disabled). Bai!

PostHeaderIcon What is this? WHERE AM I?!

Don't fret, this is my new blog. I'm still the same person running it. However, i wanted to start fresh, for a few reasons;

A) The old one was far too negative. I looked over every post there a few nights ago, and facepalmed a lot.

B) Broken images. There were some images on HDImage (now defunct), which obviously weren't showing.

C) Cataclysm. The expansion isn't too far away, so a lot of the info there will be wrong soon.

It's now an archive.

Now, with that out of the way, let me share the future with you.

The Near Future
The near future is interesting. Firstly, i've got a new video coming up. Now, it's been a while since i did a video about Paladins, or about my Paladin to be specific. This new video is about Synthaxx, or Chronalis as they were once called. The main focus of the video is to show what i've achieved in Wrath.

Currently, the video is entitled "Lightforged Champion : Wrath". It shows different parts of my previous movies. Currently, this is "Battlemaster in Training", "Chronalis vs Velen", "Starcaller", and "Kingslayer".

It's gonna be rendered completely in After Effects, and makes heavy use of special effects. It's looking rather spectacular currently, and really, it's meant to be a really fancy video to finish off the expansion. I've got some fitting music for it, and i've worked the video around it, with all the action parts at the fast paced parts, and the calmer parts at the slower parts. However, the calmer parts are actually filmed in WMV, but it's made to look like it fits with the video in a sense.

Currently, i've got around 1 minute of film to add in order to finish it.

The Further Future
The further future is a little uncertain. It consists of several points.
- Being the GM of the guild
- New class mechanics, which will hopefully make me interested in the class a bit more
- The guild itself

I said i wouldn't make this blog so negative, but this needs to be put out there.
The first point, is that i was made GM of the guild, without really wanting such responsibility. I didn't mind being an officer and running the website and such. I never wanted GM though, not for a raiding guild.

I'm now feeling stuck being GM. This'll lead to point 3, but i'll talk about that below.

The 2nd point is about the class. I'm liking how the mechanics are shaping up, mostly anyway. I'm liking how i'll be able to play to my ability and strengths more, without dodgy mechanics, such as our mana regen in PVP.

The 3rd point is rather... well..... difficult to talk about. See, since January, we've slowly lost people, either to going social, or to other guilds. I don't hate socials, i just hate we've lost so many people to it. If they came back from social to find the guild had folded, i know they'd assume it wasn't their fault at all in any aspect. It's purely because we've now got like 7 very good players, all social.

As time has gone on, we've been left with barely enough to get raids together. We've got 1 boss left from the Wrath set (LK Heroic), and we're struggling to even get 10-mans for ICC together. You can see we're not a terrible guild, but you can also see we're lacking numbers badly. Often, we're running raids without even replenishment.

This has left me feeling really drained.

I came to a decision a few nights ago; If we get to 2 weeks before 4.0 release and things weren't better, i'd be looking for a new guild. I'm not sure if i'll go through with this yet. See, we've got a few new recruits applying, and hopefully, they'll be joining us very soon.

The problem has always been that i raided for others, purely because i was a tank, and reliable too. I've grown close to the guild. I've made friends. When things started going downhill, i considered abandoning ship, but stuck with it. Now, i'm here, in this same situation many months/years later. I can't raid for others much longer, i just can't. I want to raid for myself again. I can't go social, or the guild will die... of that i'm sure. But i can't put up with feeling pressured any longer.

If things look better for Cataclysm, i'll stay, but if not, i'm out. I've given it more than enough chances and tried to help it recover... but it's never worked completely. I need to raid for myself though. I'm not prepared to struggle to get raids going any more. It's all or nothing.

I dunno, i need to see how things pan out. I've always wanted to raid in a truly progressed guild. You know, light of dawn, etc.

The future is uncertain. All will become clear as time goes by though.

PostHeaderIcon New Blog

Just a heads up for anyone who found their way here from forum links or from their favourites that this is the new blog. The old blog is located at lightforgedarchive.blogspot.com.

I've got some things to post, including an explanation, but i'll sort them later.
